All new model, same old result

A new year, a new car and a new category, yet for the fourth year in a row Drive’s panel of expert judges have voted the Kia Sorento top of the class in the Family SUV category.

Making it a double delight for Kia and, joining its stablemate as a Drive category winner, is the all-new Carnival which also won the judges’ vote as the best People Mover on the market.

“To win one Car Of The Year award from an organisation as prestigious as Drive is fantastic, but to win two in the same year is simply sensational,” Kia Motors Australia Chief Operating Officer Damien Meredith said.

“Sorento’s recognition as a four-time winner exemplifies the quality, safety and value journey that Kia has embarked on _ and to underscore that with the success of the Carnival is clear recognition that the DNA of the brand is in great health.”

Having won best SUV over $40,000 in 2012, 2013 and 2014, Sorento was this year moved to the new Best Family SUV category where it again ruled the roost.

Drive’s judges praised the Sorento for its local ride and handling development _ “it finds a good balance between comfort and body control” _ and for the spacious and stylish interior _ “very luxurious”.

There was also recognition for the thoughtful design throughout the car with the judges noting “small but significant design pieces scattered throughout the Sorento interior to make it a really user-friendly family SUV”.

In the case of the all-new Carnival the Drive judges were impressed by the size of the eight-seater, particularly the ability to take plenty of luggage, even with the third row seats in place.

“The interior is well laid out with plenty of places to store odds and ends, both covered and uncovered. There are even 10 cup holders spread around the interior over all three rows,” Drive noted.

Carnival is Australia’s most popular people mover with a market share of almost 40 per cent of the segment in November.
