Driving Simulator

Driver Safety Australia launched Australia's first driving simulator that puts student and fleet drivers in realistic Australian on-road situations.

This high tech innovation brings to driver training the simulation technologies employed by NASA, airline and fighter pilots and even surgeons. It sets a new standard in how we train and educate drivers.

“Technology at this level has been available only at university level for research, now it’s available for anyone who wants to be a better trained driver,” said Russell White, managing director of Driver Safety Australia.

Immersive Learning Experience

The portable units feature a driving cockpit, an immersive environment, real time vehicle telemetry and series of driving scenarios especially designed for Australian conditions.

“The real revolution in this technology is the ability to dynamically assess drivers as they go through each course unit,” said Mr White.

“Not only does the simulator monitor speed, but it also assesses driver’s performance and decision making processes in real world scenarios.

There are 25 programs built into the software that cover country driving, urban environments, new driver and advanced driving scenarios. Each runs for about 20 minutes to give the driver the opportunity to practice the core skills over and over again.

“That also includes scenarios that would be too expensive or dangerous to conduct out on the road and highlights the consequences of human error.”

On Location

The simulator can be used in schools and on location in businesses that value driver training as part of their education and health and safety policies.

Using a driver training simulator provides a number of benefits in terms of student outcomes and allows the driver to immerse themselves fully into the driving task.

The instructor can easily supervise the student as they experience a vast array of training possibilities in a range of driving conditions.

This means that there are almost unlimited training possibilities with multiple driving conditions and hazards.

It also provides the ideal environment for drivers to learn higher order skills such as hazard perception and scanning in various traffic scenarios. The system tracks the individuals driving performance and logs their training data.

Finally, simulator training is environmentally friendly, safe and cost effective.
